New Yorkshire Section
May 2008
A great number of people in
the Yorkshire area are showing an interest in Freelanders and our
Freelander Club so we now offer a monthly meeting there. Meetings
will take place at 8:00pm on the first Tuesday of the month at: The
Angel, Morley, Leeds, LS27 0LY.
Why not call down and support us?
The size of Yorkshire requires more than one person to organise
meetings and events so a team of keen Yorkshire folk, Richard and
Chris, Ray and Christine, and Simon will welcome you. They are
planning a series of outdoor events too, linking with the North West
region.

HUE meets HUE
Gaydon Show, May 2008
The old & the new!
HUE meets HUE
One of our older (over 60 yrs young) members from Devon, Hugh, has
wanted this photograph for a long time now and an opportunity arose at
Gaydon during the Heritage week-end to get the snap of the year.
Hugh has been a Land Rover fanatic for a long time and his ownership has spanned Series 1 to Range Rover.
On retirement recently Hugh spent some of his well earned money on the Freelander 2 pictured above.
Hugh has just about finished kitting it out for an expedition to and through the
Pyrenees later this year.
Hopefully we can persuade Hugh for some event pictures on his return.
If you attend the shows you may well see HUE (the newer one) on the Club stand.
I should add: the landrover on the left needs no introduction
HUE 166, better known as 'Huey' is either "the first
pre-production Land Rover built in 1948", or "the authenticated 'number one'
production Land Rover sold in July 1948" or "the first Land Rover built in
1947".
One way or another, and discounting the original prototypes,
Huey is the real numero uno, and a vehicle of great period charm.
The designers
were brothers Maurice and Spencer Wilks, respectively managing director and
chief engineer of Rover at the time.
New Club T-shirts (May 2008)
New club t shirts went on sale at Gaydon last week-end.
Initial stocks are selling well and further colours/styles/designs will follow
New East Anglia Representative (May 2008)
Stepping in to help organise the East Anglia area is Sarah Lester.
Sarah is an experienced Freelanderer and past owner of other Land Rover models.
New North East Region Representative
The recent vacancy of Local Area Representative for
the North East Region has been filled by Mark Whittaker-Smith.
Mark
has been an active member in the North East Region for a number of years,
being involved in and helping to organise many of the local events and
attending National Events..
